MADRID: More than 500 people died due to the severe heatwave that has hit Spain for the past ten days, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced.
In a statement on Wednesday, Sanchez confirmed that during this heatwave, more than 500 people died due to high temperatures, according to statistics from the country's Public health Institute, calling on citizens to exercise extreme caution.
Spain was hit by a heatwave that affected most of Western Europe with temperatures rising to 45 degrees Celsius in some areas, causing dozens of forest fires.

Andalusia, Castile and Galicia are the regions most affected by the heat wave that has swept Spain, with average temperatures between 42 - 45 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists in Spain expect temperatures to remain high in these areas at least until the end of the week.
