Doha: The Ministry of Commerce and industry (MOCI), in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Widam Food Company, announced the initiative of the sale of subsidized sacrificial animals for the year 1443 AH, which begins on Friday, July 1 until Wednesday, July 13.

The Ministry confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the initiative aims to control the market during the blessed Eid Al Adha period in order to achieve price stability, create a balance between supply and demand, stabilize the local market during certain seasons in which the demand for supply increases, reduce the unjustified rise in red meat prices in those seasonal periods, and provide basic commodities at an acceptable price for consumers.

The initiative prioritized the support of breeders and farm owners due to the Ministry's keenness to increase local production to achieve self-sufficiency and attain food security.

It was agreed with Widam Food Company to provide local and imported sheep to be sold at subsidized and reduced prices to citizens according to the specific weights and prices, which are: local sheep weighing 40 kg and above at QAR 900, and imported sheep weighing 40 kg and above at QAR 900.

Widam Food Company will provide the appropriate sheds and is committed not to sell any lean sheep or those that do not conform to the specifications and conditions of the law of sacrifice, or do not conform to the weights and sizes agreed upon with the Ministry.

The sale of sacrifices will take place at the Widam slaughterhouses in Al Shamal, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Al Sheehaniya, Al Wakrah and Abu Nakhla and that the sale will be to citizens only, at the rate of one head of live sheep.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry confirmed that it will intensify its inspection campaigns to ensure compliance and the integrity of procedures for the implementation, urging all consumers to report any abuses or violations.
