Legendary cricketer Mahela Jayawardena has called for the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Jayawardena said that the President is directly responsible for the situation the country is facing.

The former Sri Lanka cricket captain called on the President to resign after a doctor tweeted saying she had decided to take a break from doctor's chat groups.

“I'm tired of reading about preventable deaths. Death of a baby, cz the father didn't have petrol to bring the baby on time to hospital. Death of a 12yr old coz father went to 8 pharmacies to buy a life saving drug. Too late!,” the doctor had tweeted.

Jayawardena responded to the tweet saying as a father he can only imagine what they must be going through.

He said that if Gotabaya Rajapaksa reads this and has any guilt he should resign immediately as he was directly responsible for this situation and everyone else who was part of this administration. (Colombo Gazette)
