New Zealand Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta expressed grave concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and announced an additional $6 million to support global efforts to prevent famine and support food security in the country.

The country's Foreign Minister said $3 million will be given to World Food Program while $3 million more will be given to Food and Agriculture Organization to be used in Afghanistan.

“We will continue to stand with international partners in expressing our concern about Afghanistan's humanitarian and human rights situation, particularly for women and girls,” Nanaia Mahuta said.

Prior to that, Australia announced an additional $40 million in the Pledging conference of the UN over Afghanistan.

Australia's Foreign Ministry in a statement said the funding will provide life-saving food supplies to vulnerable Afghans including women and children and address other urgent needs such as health, gender-based violence, and shelter.

The press release expressed concern over women's situation in Afghanistan in particular restricting them from going to secondary schools. The country has condemned the Taliban's decision to ban teenage girls' schooling and asked for the immediate reversal of that.

UN's pledging conference that was co-hosted by UK, Germany, and Qatar raised $2.44 billion for addressing Afghanistan's ongoing humanitarian catastrophe.

All the money to be channeled through UN aid agencies and will also be allocated to the Afghans in regional countries.
