Jordan - FM, Norwegian counterpart talk ties, region


(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt on Wednesday affirmed the continuation of efforts exerted to increase cooperation in economic, investment, tourism and defence fields..

In a meeting held prior to the ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) to coordinate international aid to Palestinians, the two ministers discussed regional developments, foremost of which are related to achieving a just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The two ministers also reviewed the efforts exerted to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis and the issue of Syrian refugees. 

Safadi valued Norwegian efforts within the framework of the AHLC and its support to reviving the peace process.

The Jordanian minister extended thanks to Huitfeldt for her country's continued support to Jordan in its efforts to meet the needs of the Syrian refugees hosted by the Kingdom.

Huitfeldt stressed Norway's keenness to enhance cooperation with the Kingdom, praising the great role Jordan plays in hosting refugees and the efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah to achieve regional security and stability. 

On sidelines of the meeting, Safadi met with Head of the Norwegian Parliament's Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee, Ine Eriksen Soreide, to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, stressing the importance of the Jordanian-Norwegian partnership and the need to expand cooperation in various fields.

In a separate meeting with British Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa James Cleverly, Safadi stressed the depth of relations between Jordan and the UK.

Their meeting focused on the outcomes of the recent Royal visit to the UK as well as the latest regional developments, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue.

In a session with the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs NUPI, Safadi reviewed regional developments, ways to resolve crises, and Jordanian efforts to achieve regional security and stability.
