Announcement of TRNC due to Greek rejection of Turkish Cypriots’ independence

(MENAFN) On Monday, Nov. 15 it was declared that the announcement of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is an outcome of the Greek party’s rejection to agree to Turkish Cypriots’ self-governing, reported TRNC’s official.

Ersin Tatar stated during a festival signaling the 38th anniversary of the establishment of the TRNC, “The proclamation of the TRNC on Nov. 15, 1983 is a result of the Greek Cypriot side's refusal to accept our sovereign equality, its refusal to share power and wealth with us, and the international community's hearing only the Greek side's voice.”

Tatar further said, Turkey ceased the Greek regime, which announced the Hellenic State of Cyprus alongside an armed revolution on July 15 in 1974, by employing its sufficient and de facto supporter right.

He further added, “If a peace operation had not been carried out in Cyprus [Island] on the morning of July 20 for our security of life, property and independence, Cyprus would have turned into a Greek island today.”
