The Integrated Transport Centre Organizes a Workshop on Urban Mobility and Its Importance in Supporting Societies
(MENAFN- ITC Media) Abu Dhabi on Sunday, November 7, 2021 – The Integrated Transport Centre in Abu Dhabi of the Department of Municipalities and Transport - alongside the Oliver Wyman Forum - which recently issued the Urban Mobility Readiness Index - have organized a workshop on promoting the culture and concept of mass and sustainable transport. The workshop examined the role of public transport in improving the quality of life through facilitating social mobility and supporting economic development in its various sectors.
The workshop touched on the advanced transport services provided by the ITC to residents and visitors of Abu Dhabi alike, highlighting how the Emirate is now bearing witness to an increased turnout of visitors as a result of the standards and the efficiency it offers. The attendees also discussed the Urban Mobility Readiness Index issued by the Oliver Wyman Forum, which is based on multiple criteria that aim to assess urban mobility in cities. This includes: infrastructure, social impact, operational efficiency, flexibility and innovation and the adoption of future technologies.
Representatives from Oliver Wyman also discussed the strategies that enabled the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to achieve an advanced global rank in the Urban Mobility Readiness Index and the approach it is undertaking to maintain its leading position in this field.
The speakers praised the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for providing a distinguished road network that excels in quality and the ability to support traffic. They also applauded Abu Dhabi’s strategic vision, which serves to diversify means of transport that enhance the Emirate’s position and progress in the Urban Mobility Readiness Index. Additionally, Abu Dhabi’s strategic vision contributes to its quest that aims to develop innovative models and infrastructure designs which provide smart mobility for the residents of the Emirate and its visitors.
It is also worth noting that Abu Dhabi ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa in the Smart Cities Index for the year 2021—issued by the International Institute for Management Development—for the second time in a row, where mobility is one of the primary points of focus included in the Index.
