Uzbekistan: Gas blast obliges residents to evacuate building in Tashkent

(MENAFN) A gas blast in the Uzbek capital Tashkent has resulted in damage to a number of apartment units, with no losses reported.

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Emergencies announced that the blast took place on Sunday evening in a residential building in Tashkent's Chilanzar district. A number of 17 residents of the building are now provisionally residing in a hotel.

The country’s regional gas supply network noted in a declaration that the blast happened because of an unauthorized use of natural gas in one of the apartments which was not attached to the key gas supply system.

The recently-constructed building wasn’t authorized to connect to the gas supply network, according to the ministry.
