Qatar participates in G-20 meeting on Afghanistan


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The State of Qatar participated in the Group of Twenty's (G-20) meeting on Afghanistan at the level of foreign ministers, which was held via video conference on the sidelines of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly. 

The State of Qatar was represented in the meeting by  the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. 

He affirmed during the meeting that the State of Qatar is showing full solidarity with the people of Afghanistan, and is supporting efforts to achieve stability, security, peace, and development in the country. 

The Foreign Minister noted that the State of Qatar highlighted the vital role Afghan women will play in the country's development, in addition to the right of Afghan girls to education. 

He also noted that the State of Qatar called on the transitional government to take the example of many Islamic countries, including Qatar itself, where women practice their rights fully and constructively. 

He said that dealing with the international community is the only way forward. 

The Minister added that the State of Qatar stressed the importance of preventing individuals and groups from using Afghan land to threaten the security of any other country, and that there is a need to take into consideration the concerns of Afghanistan's neighbouring countries. 

His Excellency said when concluding his remarks that the State of Qatar is deeply committed to working closely with Afghan leaders and all members of the international community, including the G-20, to enhance agreement and assist in the establishment of peace in Afghanistan. His Excellency also said that Qatar will use all its diplomatic tools, humanitarian and developmental aid, to help the Afghan people realise their legitimate aspirations.
