U.S. concerned about possible Palestinian expulsions in Jerusalem
(MENAFN)The U.S. raised alarm on Friday, May 7, at the possible evictions of several families in Palestinian-majority areas in occupied East Jerusalem.
State Department spokesperson Jalina Porter told journalists that "We are deeply concerned about the potential eviction of Palestinian families in the Silwan neighborhood and in Sheikh Jarrah, many of whom have lived in those homes for generations".
"As we have consistently said, it is critical to avoid unilateral steps that exacerbate tensions or take us further away from peace, this includes evictions, settlement activity and home demolitions," she stated.
The Israeli Central Court in East Jerusalem accepted a decision to expel seven Palestinian families from their homes in help of right-win Israeli settlers at the start of this year.
