Preventive measures likely to continue during Ramadan and Eid: HMC official

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital, Dr. Yousef Al Maslamani, has said that preventive measures against COVID-19 are expected to continue during Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr.

''Until now, it is not known if we were able to overcome the cases of infection during this period, and we expect that the preventive measures to be continues during Ramadan and Eid period until the cases are reduced to less than they are now, and then some restrictions may be changed,” said Dr. Yousef Al Maslamani.

In video posted on social media sites of HMC, Dr. Al Maslamani said that it is very encouraging to see clear evidence that vaccines protect people from the emergence of severe symptoms of COVID-19 infection.

He said that returning to normal life may require vaccination of 80 to 90 percent population in Qatar.

Dr. Al Maslamani said that the data published last week showed that about 1,800 patients were admitted to intensive care units, among them included only 19 people who received the vaccination. ''This means that only 1% of these patients are vaccinated while 99% of those admitted to the intensive care unit were not vaccinated or not completely vaccinated.”

He added that these statistics are very promising and gives cause for optimism. ''In order for normal life to return, we must reach vaccination of 80 to 90% of the population in Qatar, and then maybe we can return to our normal life.”

Dr. Al Maslamani said that the daily serious cases of COVID-19 infection are steadily decreasing. He thanked the public for adhering to the instructions that led to a reduction in infection with the coronavirus.
