Al Majadwal dates in Qatar market safe: MoPH

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced that the results of the laboratory analyses of "Al Majadwal" dates samples collected from local market are safe and comply relevant health requirements.
The Ministry had taken a number of preventive measures to assure safety and suitability of "Al Majadwal" dates available at the domestic market after receiving an international notification about the opening of an investigation in a European country concerning limited Hepatitis A infections where there is a possibility that these infections may be related to the consumption of this kind of dates.
According to related notification dates were imported from Middle East and packaged locally.
Although the referred brand isn't available at the local market, the Ministry of Public Health has taken additional precautionary measures, including investigating cases recorded in Qatar of Hepatitis. It has been found that there is no relation between those cases and the consumption of dates. It has been circulated to ports to detain any imported quantities, including non-commercial, and sent it for inspection before they are allowed into the country.
