Doha: The International Chamber of Commerce Qatar (ICC Qatar) and Crowell & Moring will hold an interactive virtual discussion on the growing interest in mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods despite the pandemic challenges in Qatar tomorrow at 10am.

Titled ‘Qatar's Role in International Mediation & ADR', the webinar will discuss mediation and other ADR options and will poll attendees for their awareness and views regarding their current and future use of mediation in Qatar. Tarek Saad, Senior Counsel at Crowell & Moring and Head of its disputes practice in Doha, will lead the programme. Saad also serves as ICC Qatar's representative to the ICC's Task Force on ADR and Arbitration.

'We look forward to presenting a format that is more interactive than most virtual events. Attendees will have a safe platform to share their knowledge and opinions on mediation and ADR in Qatar using virtual polling, and to see real-time results of the legal market's perspectives, said Saad.

The webinar builds on the topics that were discussed at the webinar held on November 19, 2020, which was held in cooperation between the ICC Qatar and Crowell & Moring, titled ‘Emerging Trends in International Disputes', which included discussion of the Singapore Mediation Convention (as to which Qatar was the third signatory country) and the ICC's Mediation Rules.

A recent client alert written by Crowell & Moring lawyers in Washington DC handling substantial Qatar disputes noted that in 2020, the ICC reported a record number of mediations and other alternative mechanisms of dispute resolution with 77 new cases, signaling new trends in companies' efforts to resolve their disputes more creatively.

The alert observed that arbitral bodies smoothly transitioned to fully electronic filing systems, organised remote hearings, and issued COVID-19 guidance, which enabled parties to continue resolving their disputes without major disruption and have set the institutions up for another busy year in the dispute resolution world.

The International Dispute Resolution practice at Crowell & Moring delivers advice on the full range of business and governmental disputes worldwide. Together with its affiliate firm C & M International an international policy and regulatory affairs consulting firm and Crowell & Moring's International Trade Group, the practice provides pre-dispute counseling on investment decisions and dispute resolution clauses, pre-arbitration assistance on potential geopolitical approaches to resolving disputes, representation in international arbitrations, and litigation to enforce arbitral awards.
