Kuwait- NASA's Perseverance rover lands safely on Mars

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Feb 18 (KUNA) -- NASA's Perseverance rover, with the "Ingenuity Mars Helicopter attached to its belly," has landed "safely" on Mars Thursday.
In a blog, NASA said its Perseverance rover, which launched from Earth in July, "deploys a supersonic parachute from its aeroshell as it slows down before landing."
Perseverance's mission is to "seek signs of ancient life and collect rock and soil samples for possible return to Earth."
The Ingenuity helicopter is a "technology demonstration that will be the first powered flight on Mars."
"The mission addresses high-priority science goals for Mars exploration, including key astrobiology questions concerning the potential for life on Mars. It not only seeks signs of habitable conditions on Mars in the ancient past, but also will search for signs of past microbial life," NASA noted.
It indicated that "at the time of landing, Mars will be 127 million miles (204 million kilometers) from Earth." (end)
