Qatar- QU-H and HMC experts collaborate to train healthcare workers

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Qatar University's Health (QU-H), through its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme, recently held a webinar aimed at supporting the educational and training needs in research skills for healthcare professionals in Qatar.

With over 90 participants, the event kicked off the first of a six-part series in research skills co-designed in partnership with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) experts. The session focused on the first step in the research process — the study design and developing a research question. Further sessions will focus on other essential steps in the research process.

This CPD series intends to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary instructions to embark on their research projects and the expertise to interpret published studies. The delivery of the series has been explicitly planned at this time, where there is increasing health literature being published to inform optimal patient care, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Healthcare professionals must understand and utilise emerging evidence reported in published studies to deliver the best possible care for their patients.

QU-H CPD coordinator Dr. Zachariah Nazar, commented, 'The uncertainty of COVID-19 represents a real challenge for all healthcare professionals; there is new information emerging which affects the way that we deliver healthcare. It is therefore essential that healthcare staff can read and understand the latest reported evidence and use it to benefit their patients.

QU-H Clinical Lecturer, College of Pharmacy, Dr. Daniel Rainkie, while presenting suggested that following this CPD series, participants can use the skills they have acquired to seek opportunities to initiate their research studies.

Participants from all health professions attended the interactive session, delivered by a panel of three experts from QU-H and HMC. This collaboration developed the following strategic meetings to identify the critical learning needs of healthcare workers in Qatar. Subsequent work has been conducted to set up sub-committees made up of local experts to design and deliver specific training targeted to address the learning needs identified.

Director of Research at HMC Ambulance Service, Prof Guillaume Alinier, during his presentation, said, 'The healthcare system in Qatar employs international experts in every sector. We must capitalise on this valuable resource in developing initiatives such as this CPD series. We will all benefit from this collaboration, healthcare workers, educators, and the public.

QU-H Assistant Professor in Epidemiology in the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Mujahed Shraim, while speaking on study designs, said, 'We made the webinar as interactive as possible for the audience using quizzes throughout our talks to help everyone assimilate the knowledge imparted.

Further CPD series have been planned in collaboration with health and educational institutes in Qatar to be delivered in coming months.

QU-H has also extended an invitation to the international audience by offering open-access live- streaming of these events through their YouTube channel.

These efforts are in line with QU-H's continued commitment to supporting the optimisation of healthcare provision in Qatar and beyond.
