Ukraine, Slovakia foreign ministers discuss resumption of Uzhhorod airport operation


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Ivan Korčok discussed the resumption of the operation of Uzhhorod International Airport and the terms of signing the relevant agreement.

The diplomats paid special attention to the resumption of the Uzhhorod International Airport operation and discussed the progress of the finalization of a draft bilateral agreement on scheduled air services, the press service of Ukraine's Foreign Ministry informs upon a telephone conversation between the ministers.

"Ukraine fulfilled the requirements for signing the agreement and expects Slovakia to promptly complete domestic procedures to prepare the document for signing," Kuleba said.

Ivan Korčok assured that the agreement was a priority for the Slovak side in view of the preliminary intention to sign the document during the official visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to Slovakia scheduled for autumn.

The ministers discussed the rate of COVID-19 spread in Ukraine and Slovakia and the efforts of the governments to fight the epidemic. In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine proposed speeding up the preparation of a meeting of the Ukraine-Slovakia Intergovernmental Commission which would give impetus to economic cooperation and trade development.

Korčok assured that the Slovak side would accelerate the appointment of a co-chair of the Ukraine-Slovakia Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Industrial, and Scientific-Technical Cooperation.

Minister Kuleba expressed deep gratitude for Slovakia's humanitarian assistance in overcoming the consequences of floods in western Ukraine.

On June 10, 2020, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution on signing an Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Slovak Republic, determining the terms of use of a certain part of Slovak Republic's airspace for operation of the air services at the Uzhhorod International Airport by a designated Ukrainian air navigation service provider.

The parties plan to sign the agreement within the framework of the official visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to Slovakia.

On July 3, 2020, the Slovak Republic provided humanitarian aid to flood-affected areas of the Ivano-Frankivsk region to the tune of about EUR 80,000.
