Ukraine- President signs law to exempt pupils from passing final state certification

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed the law to exempt pupils from passing the mandatory final state certification, the president's press service has reported.

"President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed the Law ‘On amendments to certain laws of Ukraine on some issues of completion of the 2019/2020 academic year, No.725-IX, which was approved by the Verkhovna Rada on June 18, 2020," reads the statement.

In particular, the document amends the law "On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine aimed at providing additional social and economic guarantees due to the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19)," envisaging that due to the introduction of quarantine measures, pupils who complete their general secondary education in the 2019/2020 academic year are exempted from passing the state final certification.

At the same time, according to the law, pupils who complete their secondary education have the right to pass the state final certification at their own request, in particular in the form of an external independent assessment (EIA).

"Thus, pupils have the right to choose the type of assessment of their learning outcomes - through annual assessment, or state final certification, or external independent assessment, reads the statement.
