7 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Jordan on Wednesday, active caseload at 113

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, April 22 (Petra) Seven new coronavirus cases were recorded in Jordan on Wednesday, bringing the total number of infections, since the outbreak of the pandemic in the Kingdom more than a month ago, to 435.
Minister of Health Saad Jabir told a daily press briefing that the active caseload went down to 113 from 124 yesterday.
Detailing the new seven cases, the minister said three cases were detected on the borders with Saudi Arabia for two Jordanian truck drivers and an Arab national. Another two are for siblings whose father, also a truck driver, came infected from abroad, Jabir added.
Another case came in contact with a COVID-19 patient while the last case was reported by a private laboratory and it is still unknown how the patient contracted the disease, according to the minister.
As for the last case, Jabir said, epidemiological investigation teams are currently looking into the circumstances of the infection.
The minister reiterated that the flatting of the disease's curve does not mean the disease has stopped, saying "it is still there but it can be brought under control".
Jabir said the ministry will step up its testing capacity in the next few weeks as directed by His Majesty the King, noting that more 2,500 tests were conducted today and will be increased to 5,000 in the near future.
