Thai authorities to close national parks to control COVID-19 outbreak


(MENAFN) All zoos across Thailand will be closed for a two-week period as part of the precautionary measure taken to halt the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the country"s Ministry of Natural Resources announced on Wednesday.

In the statement, the Natural Resources and Environment minister, Varawut Silpa-archa declared "The temporary closure will allow the zoos to go through a thorough scrub and sterilization," adding that "the 14 days closure also gives time to renovate areas inside the zoos."

He also mentioned that the number of the visitors of the national parks has eliminated these days, assuring that "I have also given the same order to the National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department to do the same, that is to scrub, clean and disinfect facilities in all national parks."

The statement further included "It's a chance to revive natural resources and repair service points and accommodations. The parks will be ready to welcome tourists again after the Covid-19 situation is resolved."
