(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Art connoisseurs and enthusiasts were left in awe of the stunning cornucopia of contemporary art pieces at an exhibition launched yesterday at Katara Cultural Village which serves as preview of the first-ever Katara Global Art Fair (KatArt) happening in October.
Art galleries in Buildings 19 and 22 are packed with over a hundred art pieces in different mediums created by artists from around the globe at the KatArt Preview exhibition which is on show for six days.

The carefully selected artworks ranging from paintings, metal sculptures, and ceramics to digital art, video installations and mixed media art displayed in the well-curated show represent the wealth of talents from countries such as Argentina, China, Qatar, Venezuela, Philippines, UK, USA, Turkey, Australia and Lebanon.
One of the show's main attractions is a section showcasing works by Chinese artists Guo Jianyuan, Bokui, and Li Zhongjun. While Guo's still life paintings depict ancient artifacts such as porcelain of the Song Dynasty and blue and white porcelain of Yuan Dynasty, Bokui's works resemble ancient Chinese paintings with nature as subject and Li's combine Chinese characters and symbols with colours.
Two sculptures which are an intricate assemblage of a large number of spoons and forks made by Doha-based Filipino artist Danny Ponce were also unique and eye-catching among the collections on display at Building 22.
Local artists also have strong presence in the exhibition such as Qatari artist Mohammed Faraj Al Suwaidi who is presenting a video installation and paintings inspired by his recently completed successful residency in New York, Wadha Al Sulaiti showcasing calligraphic works in mixed media and Hanadi Al Darwish with a number of her abstract paintings.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by several heads of missions including ambassadors of Argentina, France and Italy in addition to other officials and members of Doha's vibrant art community.
A concept developed in 2019 by Pallas Arts - Qatar's first registered arts brokerage - in partnership with Katara; KatArt is a contemporary art fair aimed at promoting local and international artists while contributing to children's education in various countries.
On its first edition, the fair targets helping educate children in Argentina through the Margarita Barrientos Foundation, an important charity organisation which currently looks after the welfare of 8,000 children with focus on their daily needs including food, health care and education among others.
Art lovers have until Wednesday to visit and see the exhibition at Katara Building 19 and 22.
