Defense minister of Tunis runs for president

Abdelkarim Zbidi, Tunisian Minister of Defense, resigned his position on Wednesday to run for the president of Tunis, the elections are scheduled to take place in September, according to Xinhua.
He also said that he will continue to do his responsibilities as defense minister until he is replaced.
He stated that even though the law does not stop him from staying in his position as defense minister, he decided to leave his position as to not arouse suspicions of using state resources for his election campaign.
The statement said that "As an independent candidate, Zbidi has chosen to present himself after long reflection on the matter".
