Sri Lanka- EPDP, Communist Party hold talks with SLPP on new alliance

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) and the Communist Party had talks with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) today on forming a new alliance.

EPDP leader Douglas Devananda and Communist Party leader D. E. W. Gunasekera had separate talks with SLPP National Organizer Basil Rajapaksa.

The SLPP said that the proposals put forward by the two political parties will be considered when formulating the policy of the new alliance.

The SLPP said that talks have begun with several political parties to form a broad alliance.

The main goal of the new alliance will be to defeat the United National Party Government and form a new Government.

The SLPP said this week that it will announce its Presidential candidate in August for the next Presidential elections. (Colombo Gazette)
