Doha: Sri Lankan Community Development Forum (CDF) Qatar held a blood donation campaign, as part of its commitment to support local community and to engage the Sri Lankans living in Qatar.
The campaign was held to coincide with the World Blood Donor Day 2019 on June 14.
The blood donation campaign, was organised in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and some community associations representing Sri Lankans in Qatar, including Puttalam Association Qatar (PAQ), Polonnaruwa Welfare Association Qatar (PWAQ), Maruthamunai Majlis Qatar (MMQ) and Akkaraipattu Community Qatar (ACQ).
'As Sri Lankans living in Qatar, it is our responsibility to support the residents, the local community and those in need. By organising the blood donation campaign, we intended to raise awareness and educate our community on the numerous benefits of donating blood, said Kamil Jawad, President, CDF Qatar President.
Blood donation offers many benefits to both the donor and the donee. While the donee receives the specific blood type they need to recover from illness or injury, the donor also benefits from the process, as donating blood is believed to help in lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases as well as certain forms of cancer.
On this year's CDF blood donation campaign, a total of 128 donated blood from among 151 registered donors and the organisation expects to include more donors in the future blood donation campaigns.
