Ireland regrets deadly Sri Lanka bombings
(MENAFN) Ireland strongly condemned terrorist attacks which struck several churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.
Irish President Michael D. Higgins voiced regret and deep concern over the heavy fatalities and causalities that resulted over multiple bombings.
At least 138 people lost their lives and almost 500 others were inflicted with injuries in Sri Lanka on Sunday.
Irish people have "heard with great concern of the heavy loss of life that has happened at places of worship in Sri Lanka, at a time of religious significance," the Irish president stressed.
The president emphasized that "the right to the freedom of worship is a fundamental right."
Higgins also conveyed the "sympathies and solidarity of the people of Ireland to the families of those who died and those who have been injured" in the attacks.
