Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation, has seen the highest-ever number of participants contributing to the initiative, ‘No Paper Day (NPD)', supporting Qatar's sustainability goals.

More than 90 local organisations, the largest number to date took part in the 7th NPD, an annual nationwide campaign by QGBC. It is part of QGBC's ongoing efforts to encourage schools, companies, and institutions to adopt environmentally-friendly practices and find ways of reducing paper, plastic and metal consumption, as well as e-waste, a new addition to the 2019 campaign.

The annual NPD campaign ended with an Appreciation Ceremony at the Alwadi Hotel Doha MGallery, Msheireb Downtown Doha, on Thursday.

'We are excited by the continued success of ‘No Paper Day ', which has continued to grow in momentum every year. It has encouraged companies and organisations to reduce their recyclable waste and contribute to Qatar's efforts to build a more sustainable future. Joining our efforts will do more for achieving the environmental and social pillars of Qatar's development vision, said Engineer Meshal Al Shamari, Director, QGBC.

He also called upon the organisations to make a long term commitment in reducing use of paper and other materials.

During the ceremony, Al Shamari awarded certificates of appreciation and achievement to representatives from participating companies for their contribution to the campaign.

The NPD 2019 Appreciation Ceremony was hosted and supported by Al Wadi Hotel Doha MGallery by Accorhotels. QGBC also partnered with local companies for collection and recycling Elite Paper recycling for paper and cardboard, and Global Metals for plastic and metal.

'The organisations and individuals involved in NPD campaign have made tremendous efforts in contributing to a more sustainable future for our nation, said Al Shamari.

NPD initiative started in 2013 by a group of specialists in and has expanded within the past seven years. The 2019 NPD campaign has also helped the participating organisations to raise awareness among their staff about waste and the importance of reducing it, and how they can take steps to increase recycling and practice environmental stewardship.
