Qatar- Tourist Corporation of Sri Lanka holds roadshow to promote tourism

Tourist Corporation of Sri Lanka organised a roadshow in Qatar with a participation of more than 25 travel agents and hotel chains that flew into Qatar.

Grand Mercure Hotel had more than 150 local agents meeting the visiting delegation for collaborating to promote the destination inbound and outbound sales. The delegation started their first leg of promotion in Oman before coming to Qatar and in the next leg they will visit Jordan and Lebanon.

The highlight of the event was traditional dances performed by Lalanthi Academy which gave the audience an impression of Sri Lankan culture, history, and hospitality. Madubhani, Director Marketing Sri Lanka Tourism

Promotion Bureau, gave a presentation which included places to visit in Sri Lanka which is having a long history of tourism experience shared with the rest of the world. Sri Lanka ranked the top country for travel in 2019 by Lonely Planet.

Ajantha Rathnayake, Assistant Director Marketing, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, coordinator of the program, had joined hands with Mercure Hotel's well-known Sri Lankan chef Madushan to prepare some Sri Lankan cuisines which were mouth watering.

The two signature dishes called Mirissa Fish Ambula and Jaffna Pittu was admired by the guests. The poster exhibition and Sri Lankan Airline Country Manager Pirathapan Balakrishnan's speech were appealing to the travel agents. The speech focused on Sri Lanka as a choice destination for promising Qataris with have so many hotels from leading chains in the world.

Christopher Zappia from Hilton Colombo said that having five more Hilton properties to open in Sri Lanka group is a proof that Sri Lanka as a destination will be offering world-class service and hospitality.

Kumudu Fonseka a leading hotelier commented that Qatar is one of the hubs that feed the most number of tourist to Sri Lanka.

The number of flights from Qatar to Colombo weekly over 40 which is basically full from transit passengers.
