Kuwait gov't expresses confident Arab summit to address pressing Arab issues


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, March 25 (KUNA) -- Kuwait government said Monday it was confident the upcoming Arab Summit, due in Tunisia on March 30-31, would address pressing Arab causes amidst critical developments around the world.

The government, in a meeting chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, took note of the delegation accompanying His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the summit.

His Highness the Amir will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Minister of Finance Nayef Al-Hajraf, and officials from the Amiri Diwan and the foreign ministry, Deputy Premier and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh said in a statement after the cabinet meeting.

His Highness the Prime Minister briefed the cabinet about outcome of a visit of Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and his talks with His Highness the Amir over bilateral relations and cooperation, in addition to regional and international developments.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled briefed the cabinet about a recent visit by US Secrtary of State Mike Pompeo to co-chair the 3rd Strategic Dialogue, which explored cooperation on defense, counter-terrorism, cyber-security, trade, investment and education, said Al-Saleh.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled also briefed the cabinet about his recent participation in an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Istanbul, Turkey, last Friday to discuss the dual terrorist attacks on mosques in New Zealand.

The meeting called on the UN Human Rights Commissioner to establish an observatory monitoring acts of hatred, aggression and violence against Muslims. It also called UN Secretary General to convene an urgent UN General Assembly meeting to declare Islamophobia as a racist act.

On the other hand, the government commended Minister of Commerce and Industry, Minister of State for Services Khaled Al-Roudhan for refuting a parliamentary grilling by MPs Al-Humaidi Al-Subaiee and Mubarak Al-Hajraf. (end) bs
