EU slaps Cambodian rice with tariffs following probe

(MENAFN) The European Union (EU) decided to slap three-year tariffs on Cambodian rice imports following an investigation which discovered "significant increase" in Cambodian grain imports.

Increasing Indica rice imports from Cambodia and Myanmar, according to the European Commission, "has caused economic damage to European producers."

Following the imposed tariffs, the Cambodia's granted duty-free position within the EU market has come to an end.

According to the Phnom Penh Post, the tariff rate on Cambodia's rice is set to slowly lessen in three years.
