7 soldiers killed, major general injured in Wardak attack
(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) At least seven Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and a major general injured in a suicide bomb attack in the Chak district of central Maidan Wardak province on Wednesday.
A government official in the district administration, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the suicide bomber targeted an ANA pick-up vehicle at around 11 am.
He said seven ANA personnel onboard were killed and fourth brigade commander of the 203rd Thunder Military Corps Maj Gen. Abdul Raziq Safi was wounded.
In the same district last night, Taliban militants stormed three ANA check-posts, brefily capturing the posts and taking away weapons and ammunition.
Two attackers were killed and police personnel also suffered casualties, but exact figures were not known.
Police spokesman Hekmat Durrani confirmed Maj. Gen. Abul Raziq€™s vehicle was attacked by a suicide bomber and he was injured, but his condition was stable.
He said security forces recaptured the three check-posts after a clash that left two ANA personnel and 22 rebels dead.
However, the Taliban claimed they still possessed the posts.
