Azerbaijan represented at Frankfurt International Book Fair [PHOTO]

Azerbaijan is represented at the Frankfurt International Book Fair, which takes place on October 10-14.

The delegation of Azerbaijan, headed by First Deputy Minister of Culture Vagif Aliyev, includes representatives of a number of domestic publishing houses.

The country's stand features 700 publications of 490 titles in German, English and Azerbaijani languages about Azerbaijan's statehood, history and culture, Trend Life reported.

An event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the 100th anniversary of prominent composer Gara Garayev was held on the fist day of the book fair.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Germany, the European Forum on Intercultural Cooperation and the Azerbaijan National Library.

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Turkey Haluk Dursun, academician, historian Ilber Ortayly, honorary consul of Azerbaijan in Baden-Württemberg Otto Hauser, head of the music publishing house "Bellmann" Michael Bellman, public figures, representatives of culture and science attended the event.

The books "Gara Garayev. Selected Piano Pieces" and "Gara Garayev. A Short Essay on Life and Work" were presented at the book fair.

First Deputy Minister of Culture Vagif Aliyev stressed that the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is widely celebrated both in Azerbaijan and outside the country, numerous events are being held. It was noted that participation in the exhibition is important for establishing relations with foreign partners in the field of publishing and information, as well as promoting rich culture, rapid development of Azerbaijan and realities of Karabakh.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Germany Ramin Hasanov spoke about the importance of holding events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the 100th anniversary of the outstanding Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev.

The Chairperson of the European Forum on Intercultural Cooperation, Samira Patzer-Ismayilova, spoke about the book "Gara Garayev. Selected Piano Works," published with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan. He stressed the importance of the book in promotion of Azerbaijan's cultural heritage in Europe.

Frankfurter Buchmesse is the world's most important fair for the print and digital content business, as well as an outstanding social and cultural event.

The Frankfurter Buchmesse has a tradition spanning more than 500 years. And 2018 marks its 70th year running!

For five days, publishing experts, writers and cultural enthusiasts from all over the world come together at the fair in Frankfurt.
