(MENAFN- Arab Times) France, Saudi deserve credit for hosting confab: Al-Sulaiman
PARIS, June 28, (KUNA): Kuwait is deeply concerned over a spate of missile attacks launched by Houthi militias against Saudi Arabia, causing dire humanitarian conditions, its ambassador to France said on Wednesday.
Out of its unbridled support for Yemen, Kuwait is doing everything on the political front to ensure that the Yemeni people no longer have to live in misery, Sami Al-Sulaiman told an international humanitarian conference on Yemen in the French capital.
He cited Yemen peace talks Kuwait hosted back in 2016 as a testament to his country's commitment to restore peace and security to the war-torn nation.
On Kuwait's participation in the Paris conference, he said it was yet another contribution towards a humanitarian cause, acknowledging the UN's special envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths' efforts to bring an end to the conflict.
Meanwhile, France and Saudi Arabia also deserve due credit for organizing the Paris-hosted talks, Al-Sulaiman said, which shine light on the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Yemen. France and Saudi Arabia are co-hosting an international conference on Yemen in a bid to assess humanitarian needs for the country and possibly revive UN-backed peace talks.
Kuwait Municipality has renewed the contract for renting Al-Sa'adoun building, which has a number of departments of the municipality, for a period of one year, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to informed sources, the contract is worth KD 1.5 million, but Kuwait Municipality uses only 36 percent of the building. The building has five floors. About 27 percent of the third floor, 84 percent of the fourth floor and 100 percent of the fifth floor is occupied.
The first and second floors are not at all occupied.
Last year, the Legal Department was transferred to the new building due to which renting Al-Sa'adoun building is not necessary.
The sources revealed that a number of vacant buildings belonging to Kuwait Municipality are located in different governorates but they are not used including the new building of Kuwait Municipality in Hawally area.
Indian newspaper, Daily News and Analysis (DNA India), recently published a report on its website (dnaindia.com) stating that Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) has shown interest in investing in infrastructure projects in Maharashtra – the third largest Indian state in terms of population, reports Al-Qabas daily.
According to the report, other major sovereign funds have also shown interest in these projects like Abu Dhabi, China, Norway and Saudi Arabia. It pointed out that such interest includes picking up equity, providing fund or both in a couple of infrastructure projects in Maharashtra.
The report added that the government of Maharashtra had earlier held talks with Abu Dhabi Investment Authority on equity and financing of Mumbai Nagpur Super Communication Expressway and Dharavi Slum Redevelopment Project. Abu Dhabi Investment Authority may invest up to $5 billion in these two key projects eyed by the state government.
