AMMAN —AlGhad— Impoverished Jordanians in the Mahatta area, central Amman, near the Hijaz train station, face increasing threats of eviction and homelessness due to repetitive sewage flooding and various other unsanitary conditions, an investigation by AlGhad has uncovered. Landlords in the area have collectively filed eviction complaints in court to empty the neighbourhoods and take 'back their properties, dating back to the 1960s.
The investigation, in Arabic, highlights the life of three Jordanian residents of the neighbourhood with disabilities, facing incredible peril.
Many impoverished Jordanians have endured the unfathomable in these state-forsaken neighbourhoods, despite being some of the capitals most vital and ancient areas.
Still, the vitality and history of the neighbourhoods did not capture the attention of the state to maintain a decent living condition for the residents there.
MPs and representatives of the area are currently putting up a fight, according to MP Mohammad Baraiseh.
Whether their fight for the impoverished will be triumphant is still known.
