ISWK plans to offer IB or IGCSE at new campus

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- After the directive of India's Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on discontinuing CBSEi (CBSE International) curriculum, the Indian School Wadi Kabir (ISWK) is now planning to offer another international curriculum instead at its new campus.

Earlier, ISWK had announced plans to offer CBSEi at its new ISWK International (ISWKi) campus from the 2017-18 academic year. ISWKi now plans to offer an international curriculum like Cambridge IGCSE or International Baccalaureate (IB). ISWKi has no plans to offer the CBSE curriculum.

The new school will also now have to wait for approval from the Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman and Oman's Ministry of Education on the new curriculum that will replace the CBSEi curriculum.

The new school aims to offer classes from kindergarten to grade VII (two sections each). The class strength will be restricted to 25 students only.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Harshendu Shah, board president, ISWK said, 'It is indeed very disappointing that the CBSE board has discontinued the CBSEi curriculum. We had planned to offer the CBSEi curriculum at the new school. It's disappointing news for many parents too.'

ISWKi was set to start the 2017 session with as many as 300 students who had registered from KG to grade VII. 'Now, we have to shift to some other international curriculum like Cambridge IGCSE or International Baccalaureate (IB).'

Shah said, 'We had already hired 20 teachers who are well versed with CBSEi and international curricula like IB.'

Earlier, there were reports that ISWKi would likely absorb some of the 450 students from Modern International School Oman, affected following a change in the curricula offered in that school.

However, such plans are now on hold because of the latest development.
