Saudi- Man dies, friend in bad shape as mountain trip goes wrong
(MENAFN- Arab News) YANBU: Civil Defense teams in Yanbu found two people who were missing in the Abu Qarn Mountains while on a fishing trip. One died while the other was found suffering from severe fatigue.
Civil Defense spokesman in Madinah, Col. Khalid Al-Juhani, said the command and control center at the Civil Defense in Yanbu received notification on Friday about a citizen suffering from severe fatigue and poor health at the summit of Mount Abu Qarn, southeast of Yanbu Palm Center.
After identifying the location of the individual, he said teams headed to the site but were unable to gain access because of the rugged terrain. Police air patrols were called in, but they too could not land at the site due the high temperature of 54C and heavy winds. He said teams then resorted to Civil Defense teams from the Yanbu Palm Center, and transferred them to the site by basket. The two individuals were then airlifted.
Nader Ahmed Al-Zahrani, the nephew of deceased Hassan Al-Zahrani, said his uncle suffered from a fever and abdominal pains prior to the trip, but insisted on going anyway.
