Indian Coast Guard admits blowing up alleged Pakistani boat

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Indian Coast Guard has admitted to blowing up an alleged Pakistani boat it intercepted 350 KMs away from the Indian coast on 31 December.

Indian authorities had originally claimed that the Coast Guard had tried to stop the suspicious vessel, however, the boat increased speed and tried to escape.

They also claimed that once they finally succeeded to intercept the vessel, the guards asked the four men on board to help in the investigation, however, they then hid themselves below deck and set the boat on fire which triggered a large explosion.

According to a report in the India media, DIG Indian Coast Guard B.K. Loshali questioned the government's claim and admitted that it was him who gave the orders to destroy the Pakistani vessel and had informed the Indian authorities about it the night of the incident.

Following the report, Loshali issued a rejoinder claiming that the report published earlier today was not factual and that he in fact did not issue the order to blow up the Pakistani vessel.

After Loshali's rejoinder, the Indian media released Loshali's video statement in which he had said ""blow the boat off. We don't want to serve them biryani""

The Indian Defence Ministry has inquired for a report on the matter, seeking an explanation from the DIG Indian Coast Guard.

The Defence Ministry officials also stated that the Indian government will issue a clarification on the matter in due time.
