Kuwait's Qadsia, Yarmouk clubs compete in Qatar Int'l Karate Championship

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The 3rd Qatar International Karate Championship kicked off Saturday with the participation of 18 countries and 10 clubs, including Kuwait's Qadsia and Yarmouk clubs. "Kuwait is bringing seven players into the championship with the aim to gain experience and prepare for upcoming international tournaments," Al-Yarmouk's and National team karateka Abdullah Al-Otaibi told KUNA. Teammate Mohammad Babajan said "these participations help develop the players' techniques," pointing out that he went against players older than him. Three Kuwaiti karatekas fought today, with Babajan playing on the bronze medal before losing to his Algerian rival (3-2) in the single kata, while his countryman Mesfer Al-Ajmi lost to his Ukrainian opponent (4-2) in the under-60-kilogram category. Meanwhile, Al-Otaibi lost against his Algerian rival (O-2) in the under-67-kilograms class. Countries taking part in the two-day championship are France, Hungary, Germany, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Ukraine, Latvia, Austria, the UAE, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, Algeria, Tunisia, Palestine and Morocco, in addition to the host country.
