Abu Dhabi- Iris scanning helps police detect illegal entries
(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A total of 1,894,926 iris scanning of 947,463 people have been done and stored in the system, Abu Dhabi Police said on Wednesday.
In addition, 235,000 people, who were earlier deported, and returned to the country from different entry points, were denied access after being scanned, since the system was enforced in 2002 until today, said Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director of the Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police.
Maj. Gen. Al Raisi, who is also Deputy Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the International Security National Resilience Exhibition and Conference — ISNR 2010, said Abu Dhabi Police is planning to open 26 eye-scanning centres at Abu Dhabi police stations this year, to identify the persons who are arrested without
having ID's.
Eye scanning is being conducted on a trial basis, and will later be functioning to ease the procedures of passengers at entry and exit points, avoid congestion, and shorten the time of waiting, he said. The service will boost the partnership of Abu Dhabi Police with other entities, he said, noting that, the outstanding services of Abu Dhabi Airport at the international level, requires backup to give a bright picture on the country.
Enquiry counters are available at the preventive medicine centres, where all eye scan of all expatriates will be taken.
He spoke at length about the system, which is designed to bar the already deported people from coming back to the country. The system has proved its efficiency and accuracy in detecting all attempts of deported persons from making it to the UAE, after changing their names and got entry or visit visas.
