Egypt- Ministry of Interior pardons 3,477 prisoners, women indebtors

Ministry of Interior has released 3,477 prisoners on the first day of Eid Al Fitr.
The decision came based on a presidential decree on the occasion of the Eid holiday signed by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
The number of pardoned prisoners included 690 including women, who were imprisoned for failing to pay their debts.
The ministry regularly grants pardons to prisoners around major religious and national occasions.
This comes within the framework of the ministry's keenness to uphold the values of human rights, it said, and the application of the penal code according to a modern approach and provide various aspects of care for inmates, especially in communicating with their families, according to a statement by the ministry.
Last month, the ministry has released 658 prisoners on the occasion of Sinai Liberation Day.
