Barnwell Appears Set To Oust Leacock At Party's Convention

(MENAFNEditorial) Today may be the last that Major St Clair Leacock has a seat at the head table of the NDP's hierarchy.

At the party's last convention Leacock lost to Young Roland Matthews as the representative for North Leeward by one vote and had to settle for 2nd Vice President.

Major support is being thrown behind Barnwell who appears to be a favourite among the young woman of the party.

The former young democratic president Nick Francis and social activist Luzette king have publicly declared their support for Barnwell and is wiping up the public to do so as well.

In December of 2017, Keith Joesph described Leacock in his radio program as the 'Weakest Link' in the NDP.

Leacock in responding said; ' It is painful to me and my family, I don't have anything else to do with my life, my children say to me just image you do for us what you do for the NDP, my Brother in the UK said why are you not getting out of this'.

Leacock stated then that he does not deserve this for the contribution he has made to the NDP.

'I should not have to go anywhere and say what I did for the NDP'.
Barnwell who ran for Vice President at the last convention was not able to secure the position.

Leacock, on the other hand, had told the parliament in 2017 that he would support Barnwell and lead from the floor,

Nick Francis in a Facebook posting said; 'at the St. Vincent Grammar School, Zita Barnwell taught me a very important life lesson in English Literature: Reading between the Lines'.

He said as a lawyer she has done pro bono work, representing many women and girls who have been victimized, violated and discriminated against.

'As a Senator for the NDP she has served the party and the people of SVG in all aspects of public life and has worked to give voice to the issues affecting our country, particularly our women and children'

'She has the academic qualifications, skill sets and experience to carry out the role and responsibility of Vice President of the NDP'.

ZITA BARNWELL Francis said the role of VP has little to do with political profile or prestige, but more to do with working to improve the internal structures of the party, its policies, and its readiness to govern.

Another supporter of the party and social activist Luzette King has publicly thrown her support behind Barnwell, in her Facebook posting King said;

'All that the supporters for Zita Barnwell for VP are asking is that she be given a clear a path as those men seeking this and other positions'.

There is no need for the other stuff especially that which is designed to distract from the issue, she said.

Leacock before the last convention had said he would make way for the young ones to rise; they may have heeded the call this time around.

It also appears that a lonely road lies ahead for Leacock who political pundits say should have ditched the NDP following their scant disregard for his contributions and overlooking him as a man who could have led the party following the departure of Arnhim Eustace.
