Japan wants to hire Filipinos as professional housekeepers, including domestic workers who were formerly based in the Middle East. The only catch is that they must be prepared to undergo two months of training in the country's language and culture.
Jocelyn Sanchez, deputy administrator of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, said Japan could become an alternative to working in the Middle East, whose image has been tarnished by reports of some migrants being abused, GMA News reported.
Recruitment firm Magsaysay Global said Filipinos employed as professional housekeepers would get a monthly salary ranging from PHP40,000 (US$760) to PHP55,000 (US$1,000). Professional housekeepers do not need to live with their employers and are required to work eight hours per day with overtime payments.
The two-months of training in Japanese culture and language, which will be conducted in the Philippines, is intended to make domestic workers familiar with a typical Japanese house and will teach them how to cook and prepare Japanese food.
