Petro Poroshenko, Theresa May discuss joint opposition to Russian aggression


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a phone conversation with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Theresa May.

This was reported by the press service of the head of state on Thursday, May 24.

The two leaders paid attention to mobilization of the international community in opposing the Kremlin's aggressive policy in the context of preparations for the G7 Summit to be held in Canada on June 8-9.

Poroshenk stressed the need to strengthen the international pressure on Russia in order to fully implement the Minsk agreements. The interlocutors emphasized the importance of extending and strengthening sanctions against the Russian Federation, in particular in the context of the construction of the illegal Kerch Strait Bridge with the occupied Crimean peninsula.

Petro Poroshenko and Theresa May expressed full support for the findings published by the by the Joint Investigation Commission (JIT) regarding the MH17 tragedy and called it another proof of Russian aggression.

During the conversation, they also discussed the intensification of the international pressure on the Kremlin's regime with a view to release Ukrainian hostages and political prisoners.

The interlocutors discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in the security and defense spheres.

Poroshenko thanked the British side for supporting Ukraine on the path of reforms.
