Macron predicts Trump to pull out of nuke deal

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron said that he would expect US President Donald Trump to pull the United States out of the Iran nuclear deal based on his past statements while stressing he does not know what Trump will decide on 12 May, Reuters reports.

"I don't know what the American decision will be but the rational analysis of all President Trump's statements does not lead me to believe that he will do everything to stay in the JCPOA (Iranian nuclear deal)," Macron told a news conference.

"When people say President Trump is not predictable, I think the opposite, he is very predictable," Macron said, according to the US press reports. "I think the US will decide very tough sanctions."

Trump gave France, Britain and Germany until May 12 to "fix" the nuclear accord or else he would allow harsh US sanctions on Iran to snap back into effect. The sanctions will affect European businesses engaged in Iran, but more broadly, will violate core provisions of the 2015 nuclear deal, effectively withdrawing the US from its commitments.
