Pakistan- Power outages to continue during Ramzan
Decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at the Prime Minister Office on Wednesday.
The cabinet only approved the proposal of no load-shedding during Sehr and Iftar timings and clarified that routine outages will continue throughout Ramzan.
Media reports said the proposal of zero load-shedding during the holy fasting month was discussed during the meeting, but the concerned officials told the cabinet that it would not be possible because of continuous power theft in some areas.
The PML-N government after coming to power in 2013 had claimed to end power outages from the country by 2018. However, load-shedding continues in most parts of the country although the situation has improved a bit from 2013.
For the last several years, the governments in the centre envisage outages-free Ramazan but that plan always falls flat due to one reason or the other.
The meeting also gave approval to the federal budget plan for 2018-19 which will be presented tomorrow (Friday).
