National Orthodox School launches its 22nd language teaching symposium


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Mar. 9 (Petra)-- The National Orthodox School (NOS) along with the British Council launched the 22nd English Language Teaching Symposium under the theme,"Growing Global Citizens." The two-day seminar saw a wide participation, as 350 teachers and educators of English from more than 32 private schools as well as representatives from the ministry of education are taking part at the seminar.

Experts from Egypt, Sudan, Bahrain and Italy are taking part at the seminar, which inaugurated by the Education Ministry Secretary General Sami al-Salaitah on behalf of Education Minister Omar Razzaz..

"Being a global citizen means being an agent of change, being aware of global issues, critical thinker, tolerant of the other and believer in justice and world peace," said the symposium's founder and now NOS Principal May Goussous.

Board Member of the Orthodox Educational Society, Michael Hindeleh, said: " education in general and English in particular - being the universal language of communication around the globe - should be about developing students' skills in critical thinking, equipping them with human values and making them aware of global issues." Representative of the Director of the British Council, Fiona Robertson, expressed her admiration for this symposium and stressed the value of the long-standing partnership between the British Council and NOS.

The English Language Symposium is held annually during the second weekend of March. NOS has been organizing this one-of-its-kind-in-Jordan symposium annually for more than two decades, in cooperation with the British Council.
