Somalia appoints two new chiefs

(MENAFN) Somalia's new government declared on Monday the appointment of two new Police and intelligence chiefs, nearly four months, after their two men were sacked after the bloodiest attack in the country's troubled Horn of Africa nation.

Deputy Health Minister Hussein Osman Hussein was named head of the intelligence service, while deputy police chief Bashir Abdi Mohamed was named its new leader in the country, which is being attacked by al Qaeda-linked al-Shabab.

The two were dismissed on October 29, the day after 27 people were killed and two weeks after a truck bomb attack in Mogadishu killed 512 people.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the finger is pointing to al-Shabaab.

Since 2007, al Shabaab has been trying to throw the Somali government backed by the international community by targeting military, government and civilian targets.
