QBIC, South Korean startups look to expand partnerships

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Business Incubation Centre (QBIC), owned by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), welcomed their South Korean partners ‘Kstartups' to Qatar for a fruitful, knowledge sharing trip.
This follows an MoU signed in December last year as part of enhancing their collaboration and developing mutually beneficial partnerships between the two entities.
As many as nine startups flew in from South Korea and had the chance of participating in ‘Demo Day 9' by pitching their business ideas to the audience. The South Korean startups also networked throughout the day with key members of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem in hopes of discovering potential opportunities.
QBIC CEO Aysha al-Mudahka said, 'Following our MoU with Kstartups last year, we have been able to collaborate with them on many different levels. Members of the QBIC team, select startups incubated at QBIC, other local incubators, and myself recently visited them in South Korea, shared knowledge and explored investment opportunities and now we are welcoming them to Qatar.
'Our plan for them this time around was to expand our collaboration and introduce them to a variety of different local stakeholders in Qatar in hopes of providing them with the opportunity to explore new ventures with these companies, and by the same token allowing local organisations to benefit from Kstartups' experience and diverse market expertise.
Daeho Kim, chairman of the South Korea Startups Association ‘Kstartups' said, 'Throughout this fruitful trip, we have been able to meet and interact with the many different key organisations in Qatar through which we gained invaluable insights on the local economy and possible routes of collaboration. One of the aspects we strongly believe is helping Qatar achieve its growth goals are the many different international events it's hosting.
'The goals and deadlines set by the Qatar National Vision 2030 are supporting Qatar on its road to success and these are the powerful core values that our startups and SMEs live by. We believe that our partnership with QBIC will continue to help us move forward in the right direction and build on the solid business relationships we've established during our time in Qatar.
During their visit, South Korean startups were introduced to some of the key players within Qatar's business and entrepreneurial ecosystems including QDB, Ooredoo, Qatar Airways, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, QFC, QSTP and DIC in hopes of developing partnerships by meeting potential business partners and investors.
The ‘Kstartups' team was also introduced to Qatar's key landmarks and the rich local culture and heritage.
