Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 15

By Huseyn Valiyev – Trend:

PayPal online payment system may become fully operational in Azerbaijan, Zaur Gardashov, head of azexport.az portal, said at the conference titled 'Technologies and Innovations: Prospects of Economic Reforms and Development' in Baku Dec. 15.

He noted that the relevant talks are being held with the PayPal Moscow office.

Besides, he added that PayPal representatives will visit Baku in the coming days.

'In Azerbaijan, PayPal users can only make purchases or send money via the system, but not sell anything or receive payments,' he said. 'In general, payment technologies constantly develop and the services offered by PayPal gradually become outdated. In cooperation with Amazon, we use another newly created payment technology by Payoneer, which makes it possible to carry out both sales and purchases online.'

Negotiations with PayPal intensified after the azexport.az portal was created, he added.

'Previously, the PayPal office in Turkey was in charge of the system's operation in Azerbaijan, but in January 2017, Turkey terminated its contract with PayPal,' Gardashov said. 'PayPal suspended its activity in Turkey and the company's representative was recalled. So we started negotiations with the Paypal Moscow office. We did it because there are startups in Azerbaijan that need this payment system.'
