(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Dec. 4 (Petra)- The State Security Court (SSC) on Monday handed down verdicts to five defendants suspected of orchestrating the 2016 deadly terrorist attack on an army outpost, which ranged from a 2-year jail term to capital punishment. This came during a public hearing held under tight security measures, and chaired by SSC President, military judge, Col. Mohammad Afif.

The SSC tribunal convicted the attack's main culprit, Najem Omour, to death by hanging for recruiting the other four defendants to fight for the terrorist Daesh group. Omour was also found guilty of plotting the bloody terrorist attack, which took place on the northeastern border at the Rakban refugee camp, and tasked them to collect information about the site and film it. The court also convicted Ahmad al-Bdour, Fadi al-Omour and Fandi al-Ghiath to life imprisonment with hard labour. It acquitted Ahmad al-Ali of charges related to the said incident, but sentenced him to 2 years behind bars for trafficking narcotics, and illegally entering national territory.

The SSC charges were terror acts using detonatives that led to a human death, perpetrating terror deeds that destructed a building with more than a person inside and the use of automatic guns with intention to use them illicitly in accomplice.

In June 2016, seven Jordanian border guards were martyred as a suicide bomber, who drove his speedy car across the Syria border, and rammed it into a military post.
