AFC U19 Championship Group A Qualifiers: UAE routs Oman

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman made a disappointing start to its campaign in the AFC U19 Championship 2018 as Rasheed Jaber's boys suffered a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of UAE in their opening match of the Group A Qualifiers being played at the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium in Bishkek, capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, on Tuesday.

Hosts Kyrgyz Republic also enjoyed a perfect start with a 2-0 win over Nepal on Tuesday.

UAE faced little resistance as it cruised to a massive win over Oman, racing to a 2-0 lead by the 20th minute.

Ali Saleh Amro put the UAE side ahead after converting a penalty early in the 13th minute.

Seven minutes later, UAE doubled its lead, thanks to Ahmad Fawzi finding the target.

Oman tried to fight back and narrowed the deficit in the 28th minute as Mohammed al Alawi's scorching shot settled in the back of the net.

UAE, however, continued to dictate terms and its two-goal lead was restored in the 37th minute by Majid Rashid Almehrzi.

The second half saw more of the same with UAE controlling play and Oman struggling to find a breakthrough.

An error by Oman goalkeeper Yousuf al Sheyadi in the 78th minute allowed Fawzi to score his second of the match.
