Geneva, Dhul-Hijjah 29, 1438 H., September 20, 2017, SPA -- Yemeni Information Minister Muammar Al-Iryani called on the United Nations, Human Rights Council and UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed to assume their responsibilities, protect Yemeni journalists and work for the release of journalists detained in the jails of the Houthi militias.
Al-Eryani said at a press conference in Geneva today that international reports described Yemen as one of the most dangerous environments for practicing journalism, and that Yemen is a big prison for journalists, adding that since the Houthis and deposed president Saleh usurped power in Sanaa, they have controlled media institutions, closed newspapers and websites.
